When using a hybrid intake, logs are sorted directly in the log intake instead of going through a separate log sorting system. This eliminates a processing step and simplifies both internal storage and transport. At the same time, the advantages of sorted processing are retained, ensuring optimal speeds and minimal log gaps. Sorting decks are used to measure and sort logs for batch processing between the log intake and the saw line. The tables are alternately filled and emptied as logs enter and go into temporary storage. Hybrid intakes have become especially popular in small-diameter sawmills with more uniform raw materials and smaller diameter ranges than standard sawmills.
