Batch infeed

Introduction

A batch intake system sorts logs directly at the log intake instead of in a separate log sorting facility. This eliminates a processing step and simplifies internal storage and transport. At the same time, it retains the benefits of sorted processing with optimal speed and short log gaps. Between the log intake and the saw line, a number of sorting decks are placed where logs are measured and batch-sorted. These decks are alternately filled and emptied as logs enter and are temporarily stored. Batch intake systems have become especially popular in small-log mills with similar raw materials, i.e., where the diameter range is narrower than in standard sawmills.
